God wants you to need him

“What kind of God would do this?” – A God that loves you.

One of the most common phrases that people say when things get tough is, “God doesn’t give you anything that you can’t handle”.

I was a common user of this saying for years before I came to fully understand God’s purpose in my life. While this phrase may be comforting; actually, God does intentionally give you things that you can’t handle. Most of you are thinking, “What? No he doesn’t! He loves us!”. Well, that’s just it. God loves us so deeply and he wants us to come to him for help in times of need. He gives us trials in our lives to make us grow in our need for him and his mercy. There is no way that we can make it through life all on our own, we need God! And he wants us to need him! So sometimes when God sees us falling away from him, he gives us that little “nudge” to make us come back to him. My most recent "nudge" was when my brother was in an almost fatal biking accident. My faith grew more in that week then it had in an entire year. In that time of difficulty and pain, I called out to God to help me and to save my brother. Now, instead of being angry at God for putting my brother in harm’s way, I thank him for reminding me of how much we need him in our lives and for bringing me and my entire family closer to him and each other through that experience.

So whether it be a difficult test, a family illness, a personal struggle, you name it. He put that situation in your life for a reason, go to him. Ask him for help. Ask him for guidance. God is calling out to you saying, “Come back to me!”. God created you as his own son or daughter, and he wants you to need him just as much as you need your parents on earth. So the next time that you are struggling, don’t try to conquer it on your own, go to God.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
