There are a lot of weird movies out there. Me being a horror fan and overall movie lover, it takes a lot for a movie to actually be strange to me. However, this movie never fails to leave me questioning what on earth I just watched after watching it. If I don't write an article on this movie, I wouldn't be fulfilling my role as a movie enthusiast, so here it goes.
Movie: Tusk
Release Date: September 19, 2014
Director/Writer: Kevin Smith
Run time: 104 minutes
Genre: Dark Comedy
Cast: Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, and a surprise guest that comes in halfway through the movie that I love so much -- but I'd rather you watch it and find out who it is yourself so you can be as happy as I was.
Synopsis:
Two American podcasters, from the podcast the Not-See Party, like to keep it "real and raunchy and real raunchy". The podcast consists of bizarre stories that are seeked out by Wallace, where he then interviews the people from the stories and describes them to his partner that stays home and does not see (Not-See party) these things firsthand. Wallace is on his way to Canada to interview a kid, only to find that the kid he was going to interview killed himself. This leaves Wallace stuck in Canada in need of a story for the podcast. Completely desperate and bummed out, Wallace sees a sign while using the bathroom in a bar that completely changes his night for the better (or so he thought). In this note, a Howard Howe speaks of how he is an elderly man who seeks someone to tell his tales of adventure to, along with a free room to sleep in and free food. It seems like a no brainer so Wallace quickly contacts Mr. Howe and heads over to his mansion in Bifrost. There, he listens to the many adventures of Mr. Howe, but also discovers Mr. Howe's dark past. You'll never expect what happens next, but you'll be left wondering if man is truly a walrus at heart.
Review:
When I first ran into this movie, I wasn't even planning on getting it, but there was nothing else to rent from the RedBox. Ever since that first time I watched it, I went to endless measures to find the movie for myself. I looked in every single store just so I could buy the movie to have my own copy because it was just essential for me. I love movies, I've seen so many movies, but no other movie has left me with the reaction of shock like this one. That's how good it was, in the most bizarre way possible. What gets me is that this is a movie that was made recently, and yet so many people have not heard of it. Well, here I am (you're welcome!) -- I like really weird stuff and this movie just did it all for me. I don't want to give away the movie but honestly, just watch it! You've never seen anything like it, I promise!
Fun Fact:
I found out that this is the first movie of a trilogy about the true north. The other two movie are currently being made and I've never been so excited about something in my life! Also, in the beginning of Tusk, it says "Based on a True Story" and I tried to look up the story behind it but I couldn't find anything but if it really is based on a true story, that's some pretty chilling stuff.
