Getting Ready For College Check List

Whether you're a new incoming college student or you're a returning student, like myself, I am sure you are already counting down the days to be at your home away from home. I have less than a month until I move into my college dorm and I couldn't be any more excited. Although, as I sit here writing how excited I am to continue my college journey, I am also dreading all the preparation and last loose strings I have to tie up. So for any other college students getting ready for their first year of school or getting ready to return; here are 11 things to make sure you do before leaving for your second home.

1. Give your notice.

If you are like me and had to work the summer to be able to afford your text books, it's finally time to say goodbye to that job of yours! Be sure to give your notice.

2. Order your textbooks.

PSA: Do not order your books through the campus bookstore. You will end up spending more than needed. I highly recommend Chegg for text book rentals!

3. Purchase your dorm accessories.

Ask anyone that knows me- this is by far my favorite part of moving back on campus. Make sure you create a new space for yourself that you feel comfy and cozy in. Essentially, a new home!

4. Plan your weekly schedule.

Make sure around your classes you plan when you are going to eat, work out at the gym and most importantly- nap!

5. Clear your bill.

The most tedious and annoying part of the whole process (shout out dad for helping me)! If you forget this step, don't expect to being going to school that semester!

6. Plan trips and activities for the semester.

Take a look at the activities planned for the semester! I already know I am attending a Scotty McCreery concert!

7. Make it easier on your parents... Clean your room.

My room has been trashed the moment I came home for summer break. Make it easy on your parents and clean up before you leave!

8. Spend time with your family.

This is crucial for the first year students! Trust me, no one wanted to get out of my small town more than I wanted to, but I rushed it and didn't realize how much I would have missed my family.

9. Make time for your friends too.

I don't have many friend in my home town, but I met some amazing people this summer and know that I will miss them all dearly when I leave.

10. Pack

You're almost there! Now that is left to do is pack the car and set out for your drive to your new home!

11. Get excited!

As soon as you set foot on campus, you will feel every kind of emotion, but know you can call this place where you will meet new people, start over fresh and find yourself- you can call this new place home!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
