6 Book Recommendations For The End Of The Year
Alyssa Gasa

We have about 3 months left in 2018. Although these are the busiest months in the school year, I am setting myself a goal to read about two books per month. These means from now until the end of December I will try to finish 6 more books. While to some this is nothing, to me I find it extremely difficult to find enough time in the day to schedule in extra reading time. Below are my recommended books that I will be reading for the rest of 2018!

1. "Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire" by J.K. Rowling

A classic fall staple, you can't go wrong with Harry Potter. Currently, I am re-reading the fourth book in the seven part series. Choose to start them again or open your world to something new, these books are set during the fall time and will give you all the autumnal spooky vibes you need.

2. "Sleeping Murder" by Agatha Christie

For the second book of October I wanted something a little smaller after finishing the Harry Potter. For this, the perfect book to read around Halloween is a murder mystery! Agatha Christie is the queen of murder mysteries and suspense so truly any novel by her you will find intriguing.

3. "the sun and her flowers" by Rupi Kaur

To start off November, I choose to do something different by going with a poem book. This is a sister book to the Milk and Honey poems. If you want a dark, heartfelt, quick, and impactful read, look into these books! You can finish them in a night or spend a few days soaking in the words but either way you don't want to miss her words.

4. "The Secret Place" by Tana French

For my second novel of November, I choose to go with a novel that was a dark and twisted tale. This book follows a detective and the murder of a boy in a boarding school. While trying to find uncover who murdered him and why, they are led down a confusing path of lies and secrets.

5. "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert

For December, I choose a book to bring out some inner motivation and self reflection. Although I have seen the movie, in most cases the books are better and more insightful than the movie productions. This is one I am really looking forwards to starting.

6. "You Are A Badass" by Jen Sincero

To end the year off on a good note I choose a "self-help" book that has really gained popularity. This book gives a sassy and inspirational guide to change your life in all the right areas and for all the right reasons to better love your life and the decisions you make in it.

Take these recommendations and make them your own! Find some inspiration to make that extra bit if time to challenge yourself to read something out of your comfort zone or that you have been desperately trying to read.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
