It's a taboo subject on social media in a world where so many people are trying to fit in. We don't know what's right, we don't know what's wrong. We don't know what will offend and we don't know who will support.
My life changed a few months ago after a very tough breakup. I knew it was for the best deep down, but somehow the whole transition was a little hard to swallow (sound familiar?) I was questioning everything. My newest challenge went from figuring out weekend plans to trying to trust in God's plan for my whole life.
My Young Life bible study leader changed my life the day she pulled a little devotional book right out of her purse and gave it to me. I didn't know then what I know now- that a little book had the power to bring my life back on course.
This little book is called "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. Mardel.com describes it as, "365 daily devotional readings to help you enjoy peace in the presence of Christ. Each devotional is written from the perspective of Jesus and coupled with scripture references to speak directly to your heart." Every day has an inspiring message with bible verses to match.
My daily routine went from being mundane and worrisome, to inspired and full of faith. I began to build time around this message, and therefore time around God, every morning. I noticed a change in not only my thoughts for the rest of the day, but also in my actions. I made it a goal to keep each morning's message on my heart throughout the day and soon it became second nature. When I thought about it, I tried to act on it.
The true beauty came when I started sharing these messages. Not only had God given me an outlet to start my days on the right track, but I realized I could let His light shine through me by sharing His word and these devotional messages with others. There is power in raw kindness and thoughtfulness from the heart. I began to spread these values with no fear of rejection or judgement, and it not only changed me but I saw the people around me feel supported and appreciated.
If we have the power to make people feel happy and valued, why don't we do it more often? If my bible study leader had felt weary about giving me this reminder of God's love, I fear it would have taken me a lot longer to gain trust in God's plan for my life. Do not ever be afraid to share what you believe in. Those who mind, don't matter and those who matter, won't mind.
"I am leading you, step by step, through your life. Hold My hand in trusting dependence, letting Me guide you through this day. Your future looks uncertain and feels flimsy- even precarious. That is how it should be... When you try to figure out the future, you are grasping at things that are Mine. This, like all forms of worry, is an act of rebellion; doubting My promises to care for you. Whenever you find yourself worrying about the future, repent and return to Me. I will show you the next step forward, and the one after that, and the one after that. Relax and enjoy the journey in My Presence, trusting Me to open up the way before you as you go." -Sarah Young, Jesus Calling
