After weight loss Surgery, one doesn't eat much food. In a therapeutic attempt to console myself, I have compiled a list of the top 5 Raleigh restaurants I am missing- no chains of course! After calling Wake county home for 19 years, one grows to appreciate the dynamic and eclectic food culture surrounding you. So, my readers, please go eat and be merry to your heart's delight, in honor of me.
1. Sushi Blues Cafe - Glenwood
With their Rock n Roll themed decor, awesome sushi, and cool outside seating, one can see why this place is a top spot in the City of Oaks. They even future NC State inspired Sushi Rolls-aptly named for Pack legends like Jimmy V.
2. Cantina 18 - Cameron Village
From the upscale Tex-Mex food, and their awesome home made chips- it is quickly to see why Cantina 18 is a staple of Raleigh eating. Not to mention, the awesome location only steps away from Kannon's fine mens clothiers, and all the other great shops Cameron Village has to offer. The highlight of Cantina, though, has to be their emphasis on fresh ingredients.
3. The State Farmer's Market Restaurant - State Farmers Market
Y'all. Without a doubt, the best breakfast in North Carolina. They have anything one can imagine, and the coolest country decor. Not to mention, after eating a hearty meal of biscuits, sausage, and that housemate gravy, one can go walk them off by walking around our amazing Farmer's Market. It's got to be NC!
4. The Pit - WareHouse District Downtown
Two things sum up the Capitol of NC. First, the industry that made this city so diverse, and secondly, the BBQ that feeds it. In The Pit, one can find a big ole dose of Southern Comfort, with biscuits and Deviled Eggs better than grandmas. (Don't tell her I said that) Not to mention, classics like fried Catfish, and of course, the Best BBQ in the South. When you go, make sure you start off with the Soul Rolls!
5. The Angus Barn - Glenwood Avenue-Airport Side
I saved the best for last. In my humble, but completely biased opinion, one will not find a better steak East of the Mississippi. From the iconic red exterior, to the cozy western themed decor, and the iconic blue checkered table clothes, it doesn't get much better. Make sure you get a steak, and savor every delicious bit. Take home some cheese and crackers, and maybe a pound cake as well. Most importantly, go ahead and start planning your next reservation back, because after you go once, it is hard to stay away.
