8 Quotes From "Wonder" That Will Inspire You To Be A Better Person
LA Times

"Wonder" is both a novel and a book that will tug on your heartstrings. While parts are very sad, the general story is inspiring. It's full of quotes that can empower you and lead you to be a better person. Here are eight quotes from "Wonder" that will inspire you to be a better person:

1. “You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.”

You weren’t meant to blend into a crowd. You have unique qualities, talents, and attributes that you can bring with you anywhere you go. Use them, and stand out as much as you can.

2. “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”

Being right is never as important as being kind to someone. If your ego is more important than someone’s feelings, you need to reevaluate your decisions.

3. “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”

Everyone deserves to feel important and loved. Look out for others and give them praise when they deserve it. Eventually, the same thing will happen to you.

4. “Kinder than is necessary. Because it’s not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.”

You should always be more kind than necessary. Someone could be having a rough day, and you going the extra mile to be extra kind can make all of the difference in the world.

5. “Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.”

Have the courage to stand up for yourself and for your friends. Be kind to everyone, no matter what. Build friendships with great people that will last a lifetime. Have good character and be a good person. These are the things that make us who we are.

6. “Sometimes I think my head is so big because it is so full of dreams.”

Dare to dream big, and don't be afraid to fail. Our dreams are what drive us in our everyday lives. Without our dreams, we're just going through the motions. That isn't any way to live.

7. “It’s not enough to be friendly. You have to be a friend.”

There’s a huge difference between being friend to someone, and actually being their friend. Being friendly is making conversation and just generally being kind. Being a friend is being there for someone whenever they need you, no matter when or where. It means putting their needs before your own, in some cases.

8. “It’s what you’ve done with your time, how you’ve chosen to spend your days, and whom you’ve touched this year. That, to me, is the greatest measure of success.”

Success is how you use your time to your advantage. It’s the people you’ve impacted. It’s the difference you make. Spend your time wisely, because the time you use you'll never get back. Make every day count. And always, always, try to make a difference in someone's life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
