Hillary Clinton has chosen Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate.
Aside from his down to earth personality, there are many great things you should be aware of. Start getting excited, because with Tim Kaine on the ticket, this is sure to bring a lot of momentum to the Democratic Party.
Starting out as city council from 1995-1998, Kaine became Mayor of Richmond between 1998-2001. A year later, he was elected lieutenant governor through 2006. He was then elected as governor in 2006 and still currently serves.
Before his political career took off, he attended Harvard Law School, was a clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals For The Eleventh Circuit, and was a lecturer at the University of Richmond Law School. During his time at Harvard Law School, he decided to take some time off and travel to Honduras on a missionary. He taught carpentry and welding skills, while learning how to speak Spanish fluently.
After getting elected to the Senate, he made history by being the first senator to deliver a speech in Spanish on the floor. Many of his speeches include both, English and Spanish, giving him an advantage in political areas. People have described him as having a down to earth personality, while being great at what he does. His approval ratings have also always been higher than his disapproval ratings, and that's definitely something to be said. He even plays in a jazz band!
Politics are no stranger to Kaine. He has proven to have the education and experience, but did you know he married into a political family as well? Tim married Anne, the daughter of a former Virginia governor, where they met at Harvard. Anne was a former juvenile court judge who currently serves as Virginia Secretary of Education.
Overall, Senator Tim Kaine is excellent at his job and an all around great person. He is also known to have his on views, while being fair while governing. This not only make him a great leader, but a fair one at best.
