I know that I am definitely not a morning person, and not many of my friends are either. However, it is inevitable that you will have to work an early morning class into your schedule at least once in your college career. Here are some of my tips on how to look awake and alive (let’s be honest), even if you after hitting the snooze button one too many times.
Start With a Good Base
By base, I do not mean foundation; I am talking about your good old-fashioned epidermis (skin) as your taking off point. You could have the most expensive make-up and brushes and even a paid make-up artist, but without healthy skin underneath, you will not be looking as good as you should be! Having a dedicated skin care routine takes time to develop as well as a lot of self-discipline – trust me, I still am not as committed as I really should. Having a regular skincare routine is also essential in combatting acne and acne scars, and other similar issues. By maintaining your complexion, your need for make-up will also likely diminish. My current skincare go-tos: Neutrogena Stubborn Acne cleanser,
Neutrogena Stubborn Acne daily mask,
Boots Botanics All Bright cleansing toner,
The Body Shop Aloe Eye Defense,
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream.
In a Serious Time Crunch?
Stick to the basics! My daily essentials consist of: concealer, eyeliner on my bottom lash line and mascara. Make your essentials your own and only use what you feel you really need. BB and CC creams are amazing, quick substitutes for foundation, plus they often provide added skincare benefits; tinted lip balms are a great option to moisturize your lips while adding a hint of color; and white or nude eyeliner in the water line opens the eye, making you look more awake. When you’re in a rush, appearance isn’t everything, but a little can go a long way!
Quick Hair & Outfit Tips
If you’re really running late, your make-up is probably not your biggest concern in comparison to how the rest of you looks!
A messy bun goes with anything and everything, and is the easiest hairstyle to pull off (if your locks are long enough). Simply gather your hair like you would for a ponytail, twist the entire “tail” and then wrap in a circle, making sure to fasten with a hair tie and bobby pins as needed.
Wearing a scarf is undoubtedly the easiest way to change your outfit. Whether you’re in a sweater and leggings, or a t-shirt and jeans, adding a scarf will take your look up a notch and make you look more put together. Pair with in season boots/footwear and you are ready to rock. Pinterest has TONS of ideas on how to improve your look with a scarf!
While none of these tips can help you catch more zzz’s or look like Kim K in under five minutes, remember that you do not need make-up! And when I have an early class, I say, “skip the contour and get your coffee!”
