5 Questions Every College Student Is Asked At Thanksgiving That We Are Tired Of Answering

1. How are classes going?

"Oh yeah... they're going GREAT!!"

What you are actually thinking...

Internally screaming about how stressed I am and then I remember that there are still 3 more weeks before my impending death by finals. It's fine, I'll pull through. Everything will actually be great once finals are over. I'll be home for a month, I won't have to do any homework. It'll be GLORIOUS.

2. Have you decided what you want to do when you graduate?

"I'm considering my options right now!"

What you are actually thinking...

No, I actually have no idea what I'll be doing but I'll figure it out eventually, hahaha... I hope. Then I remember that I'm supposed to apply for internships, I wonder when those deadlines are?.... Yikes, I really need to get my life together before they figure out I actually have no idea what I'm doing.

3. Have you been ~dating~ anyone?

"No I've been busy with school work, and other activities on campus"

What you are actually thinking...

Ugh, why does this family constantly remind me of the fact that I am single? I know that they're curious but you can check my social media and see that CLEARLY, I am not dating anyone. Like, if I was dating someone everyone would probably be aware of it in some shape or form. It just makes me wonder if they think the only reason I'm in college is to find a husband. Finding a husband would be cool but homegirl has had good grades, some extracurricular activities, and some experience so she can get a job when she graduates. I ain't got time for that.

4. When will you graduate again?

"I'll be graduating in a year and a half."

What you are actually thinking...

Well, I HOPE I graduate in a year and a half. A lot can change, I could change my major, or maybe win the lottery and not need a degree. I just want that piece of $80 thousand paper that proves I can accomplish something and then frame it in an EXPENSIVE frame so I can show it all to all of the people who walk into my future office.

5. What is your major?

"I'm majoring in ____! I'm really excited about it because it's something I really like doing!"

What you are actually thinking...

Well, I'm PRETTY sure this is my major. It's been the same for a little while now, I would hope you would remember it! That's fine if you don't remember but my major is pretty cool and even though I'm going through all of this stress. I think when I'm done something great will come out of it. This is probably one of the only questions I like answering.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
