Like every other teenager, I use social media (particularly Instagram and Snapchat.) I would say that Instagram is by far my favorite, with all the memes that one’s heart could possibly desire. However, it’s also a place of stupidity because, with any social sharing platform, you can observe anyone’s ideas whether they are good or bad.
So I was scrolling through my feed one day on Instagram and I saw this one picture of Odell Beckham Jr. on a meme page. In the image, Odell is standing chest to chest with a man who is much larger than him.
There was nothing wrong with the picture.
However, the meme page captioned the image with “obj seems a lil suspect.” This is alluding to Odell Beckham being gay. All of the comments under the image were also of people assuming that he was gay. I don’t mind people questioning if someone is gay, but I hate that they made it seem like it was a bad thing.
Does anyone else think @obj is a lil suspect ? Lol

Homosexuality is still not really accepted in our society. It definitely has gotten a little better over time, with the allowance of gay marriages to be legal on a federal level. However, there are still lingering ideas that “gayness is bad.” And in Odell's case, it’s worse because he is a black male. Although it is not necessarily exclusive to the African-American community, homophobia is very prevalent amongst African-Americans. To many people, if a black man is gay, then he is not “masculine enough.” It is a sad ideology that has persisted for a long time.
Odell has never stated that he was gay, so I’m not going to assume his sexuality.
But if he was gay, that wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Why do people care so much about another person’s sexuality? It literally does not affect your life AT ALL. Whether someone is gay or straight, it should not preoccupy the minds of other people.
