My Canadian grandma is visiting my family for Christmas break, so I decided to ask her for some advice on general topics about life. I really hope that you enjoy this article because I had fun writing it!
Q: What was the best part of Christmas for you and what did you want for Christmas?
A: "To be with family. I had nothing on my Christmas list. All I wanted was to spend time with my family and come to Texas [where I live]."
Q: What if I don't fit into my clothes anymore (especially after Christmas)?
A: "It's diet time. No, I don't want to expand, I want to lose pounds. I should eat food that I should be eating and exercising."
Q: What is your favorite knitting stitch?
A: "Knit and pearl."
Q: Who is your celebrity crush / woman crush?
A: "Perry Como, what a handsome bloke. Oh, and Julie Andrews."
Q: What was your favorite game growing up?
A: " Baseball. We used have a park next to where we lived. My friends and I used to play together. I only really played with boys; there wasn't a lot of girls back then. We played with what we had, so there was mostly boys."
Q: What is your least and favorite decade and why?
A: "My least favorite decade was the 00's. That was when my husband died. My favorite one was the 90's because I did a lot of traveling. We went to Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Alaska, and we also road tripped across Canada."
Q: What is the biggest difference between now and when you were a kid?
A: "I'm bigger. Transportation has changed drastically. We had Model T's and airplanes were just being discovered. We didn't even had plastic when I was growing up. We produced our own food because we lived on a farm. Most kids learned how to knit and crochet back then. Schools have grown in size. We had a two roomed schoolhouse when I was in primary school. I helped make our clothes for my family. I also had to share a bed with my sister, that was a trial."
Q: Tell us a funny story that's happened to you.
A: "I was walking out of the kitchen to the hallway and I tried to turn off the light switch. I turned the kitchen light off but I missed the upstairs light. Then I turned the living room light off, then it was PITCH BLACK and I thought, 'Oh, well I know my house pretty well, I can walk this.' I then turned around and hit my head on the wall. I knocked my glasses off my head and when I picked them up, they were all messed up. I turned the hallway light on and I just went to bed. I had had enough. When I woke up the next morning, I found that I had a black eye!"
Q: What advice would you give to the youngest generation?
A: "You should respect and love your family; be kind and honest. I never got an university degree, so I have always thought that it is good to get a degree or any form of higher education. The sky's the limit."
