God’s plan for us is great. He has plans for us that we can’t even fathom and yet, when things don’t turn out as we’ve planned them, we begin to lose our trust in Him. We’ve all been there. Each of us has dreams and aspirations that we hope to fulfill before we leave this earth, the thing about it is we’re not in control of our lives. We are not God. We should rejoice when we come to that revelation because that takes the weight off of our shoulders. Not to say that we shouldn’t work diligently and try our best, because God requires us to do all things with a spirit of excellence, but when it comes down to it, we don’t control anything. We cannot make ourselves wake up in the morning, breathe, tell our organs to function, etc.
It is normal for us to be bombarded with the standards of society. We want all the accolades and as much instant gratification that we can get so when we plan for events that could possibly give us those we are upset when they don’t happen and we start to blame God. How can we get upset when God prevents us from doing things that He did not tell us to do? I can think of plenty of things I could be great at doing and set goals for myself to do them but if it is not in the plan that God has for my life, how can that benefit me and glorify Him?
As a believer, my first job is do what God has called me to do which is to share the Gospel with others by mouth and by daily interactions with others. It is true that God places desires in our hearts to go off do more things but we should also have pure motives in doing those things. I cannot put my trust in myself because I will fail. I cannot put my trust in man because man will fail me. God never will, he promises us this.
With this knowledge, why is it so hard to trust God? After all, He did create us. Do we think that we can plan and execute ideas better than Him? The fact of the matter is, He has the greatest plan for us. A plan to prosper us and not to harm us. One to give us hope and a future. No one else can promise us this AND make it come to pass. We will not get everything we want but we should consider ourselves blessed when God protects us from things that are not good for us.
It is hard to comprehend this sometimes and it is especially hard to have faith in God when we can’t figure out what He is doing with our lives. His way is not our way, but it is the best way. He wants us to have a good life and does not seek to harm His children.
I say all this, not to seem better than anyone else but, because I had to learn it and I want to share with others. We have a God who loves us and has our best interest in mind at all times. This doesn’t ensure that we won’t experience difficult times but it does ensure that we have hope in the midst of those times. If you’re not at the exact spot you planned to be at in life right now, don’t fret. There is a time for everything under the sun and you’re time is coming.
