Ellen DeGeneres has done it again. She created a new game app that might possibly top her previous app, "Heads Up." "Psych" is a fun new app that challenges you to psych out your friends with silly trivia.
The game is played by connecting with your friends using the secret code that the app gives you. Once you're in everyone is given a trivia fact and each player has to make up an answer that they believe that the other players would want to pick. After each person has put down an answer all of the answers will show up on the screen, along with the correct answer. You get points for picking the correct answer and if your friends pick your made up answer. There isn't a set number of points to win, so technically the game could go on forever!
Just like "Heads Up," there are different deck categories, such as "Word Up!," "Word Up! Switcheroo," "It's The Law," "Name That Show," and more. Each offers silly rounds of endless fun. There are also other decks available for purchase when the app is running.
A great part about Psych is that the game is played over an internet connection, so you can play with your friends and family from anywhere. My cousins live in Kansas and my brother is back home in Ohio, so we all love to play together. It keeps us connected even though we're all far away.
I think my favorite part about the game is the "Psych Face" that you can manually set. When you psych someone a screen shows up on their screen and it can feature a picture that you set yourself. Right now my psych face is a funny picture of my dad using the puking rainbow setting from Snapchat.
Ellen's humor shines throughout the app with funny phrases on the waiting screens. "Awkwardly stare at the leader until they give you the secret code," and the, "Hey! No Peeking!" screen if you try to look at your screen before everyone has picked an answer.
Unfortunately, though, the app has a lot of technical bugs. The app randomly crashes sometimes and the system sometimes kicks people out of the game without any warning and blames the leader of the game for it. I find this to be the only technical drawback to playing. If the game technicians fix these problems then I would give the app a top rating.
Another problem is that there are not a ton of trivia questions for each category. The next time that the creators are working on an update it would be great if they added questions to the decks, because you and I both know that no one wants to pay for the extra decks if they don't have to.
"Psych," although new and still in need of some technical changes, is a fun game to play with all of your friends and family. Have your whole family download it and it'll be the new hit during your family's next boring Christmas party.
