A lot of people like to say that going to college for communications would be an easier pathway which may be true if you are looking at it like nursing or communications but communications has its own set of struggles. When deciding what I should major in I thought about how much fun it was in high school to be in the broadcast class and getting news to the whole school.
I never knew how many people actually are communications majors until I started meeting people on campus and a lot of people I met were communications majors. I have had some of the best professors ever in the communications department and some of the best study buddies.
There are so many things you can do with a communications degree. You can go into PR, which again has a lot of different opportunities. You can go into journalism and give the news to people all day whether it be print, radio, or television. You also could go into Media studies. You are given numerous opportunities to use equipment you will be using in your professional life.
College is challenging no matter what you decide would be the best fit for you. No matter what major you are you will have your own problems and your own struggles. No major is more important or more challenging. They are all just different.
You also have a higher chance of being hired no matter what job you are wanting. Communication skills are essential to have when looking for and obtaining a job. The media has such a hold on people in their day-to-day lives and if you go into communications you can be a part of that.
For some people, a communications degree wouldn't be right because you aren't being fitted for one exact career and your job title will probably change over time, which is not a bad thing. As you move up in your career it comes with all new responsibilities not just adding onto the same old job.
Communications teach you to be your better self and helps you accomplish your professional and personal goals throughout your life. I hope this helps when deciding on whether or not you should decide you want to go into communications. It is one of the best degrees if you want to be able to do a lot of different things throughout your professional career.
