As the spring semester drew to a close, something was lurking for a small group of students...
Summer School.
No. We are not the kids that slept through the regular school year, fiddle-farting around. Actually the great majority of us are looking to get ahead... Shocking!!! I know! Surviving the heat and classes poses a challenge for many, yet to others it is a fantastic opportunity - I was looking forward to being apart of. But before I signed my summer away, I weighed the pros and cons. So as the summer semester now comes to a tragic end, I figured it would be helpful to others that may be in the same predicament...
Pro: Empty campus
No hoards of people everywhere you turn. You can actually sit in the library. No massive food lines. The dream.
Con: Instant hate towards any big groups or tours on campus
Who want's to tour a college campus in Phoenix in the middle of July anyways? Yeah, stop staring and leave.
Pro: Laughing at the miserable people returning for fall
"How was your summer!?!"
"Oh, I was actually here all summer! .....You went to Hawaii for two weeks!?! Wow! And now you're back here..."
#sorrynotsorry
Con: You really don't get any type break before fall semester
You gave that privilege up at the beginning. Suck it up, buttercup.
Pro: Netflix
You have homework, but you also have Netflix... And you're mom isn't there to assign chores. BONUS!
Con: Minimal food places open on campus
4 places. And they aren't even open all day. That means every man is for himself. #thestruggleisreal
Pro: On campus jobs are EVERYWHERE
Campuses are crawling with places in need of student workers. So make that money to support your expensive summer lifestyle!
Con: That money is immediately gone after the weekend
Mini roadtrips, concerts, food, books, shopping, etc. Thanks summer.
Pro: Tanning at the EMPTY campus pools
Literally no one. All day. Everyday.
Con: Seeing all your friends have fun at the beach
No, it's cool guys. Just gettin' my degree. NBD.
Summer school sounds like a pain to traditional semester students, but to those that stick out the heat of school and summer the end is rewarding. Being here over summer has taught me many lessons of independence. I have met so many other hardworking students and would not trade the new friendships and experiences I developed this summer for anything. So while it is hard missing family and friends, there will still be that light at the end of the tunnel! Summer school gets you a head start towards graduation and ultimately your career!
