Prom Expectations

Prom in a nutshell

Prom Expectations

Prom is a formal event given by the school thrown at the end of the year. Prom is also what some might call "the most memorable night of their lives." Well, prom is anything but. Prom is nothing but a moment in time where you see the same people whom you've seen for four years gathered in one room dancing to Justin Bieber's latest hits.

1) The food

Do not be afraid or embarrassed to eat the different fruits and finger foods at the prom. In fact, there are what makes the prom even more of a good time. Image, after you finish dancing with your friends to your favorite song, then heading to the buffet of food to indulge in chocolate covered strawberries. Finishing it off with a cup of lemonade.

2) Don't wear heels just to take off

If you wear heels to the prom, fine, where heels, don't wear them for 20 minutes after you get to the location of the prom then decide to take them off due to the blisters forming on your feet. However, if you do decide to take them off make sure you put them in the coat room.

3) Use the coat room for storage

When you walk into prom with you ticket in hand, there will be a room where you can store your belongings such as coats, bags, shoes, and etc. I recommend that you use the coat room to store your belongings for safe keeping.

4) When in doubt, go with friends

Many people feel if they can't find a date to the prom or no one asks them, then there is no reason in going. You're wrong. If prom is so "special", wouldn't you want to share the experience with your closest friends anyway?

5) Do not expect the impossible

Please! Do not expect your crush to approach you at the last minute of the dance during the final song of the night and place one on you. Do not expect everyone to be dancing and having a good time. There will be people there, maybe some in your group, who will try and start trouble between others. What I am saying is, do not go to prom expecting a series of events to happen. Do not show up with expectations.

6) All hail your King and Queen

When the prom king and queen are crowned, it's the climax of the night. Not really!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
