It's been about three months since Jared Knabenbaur (a.k.a. ProJared on YouTube) was accused of cheating on his then-wife for Holly Conrad (a.k.a. CommanderHolly) and sending inappropriate pictures to and grooming underage fans on social media. A few days ago, he uploaded a statement on YouTube clearing up any misinformation that may have been spread during that time period. The video was approximately forty-five minutes longs and was filled to the brim with screenshots and receipts that can be proof that the accusers were lying the whole time. Honestly, I could not have been more amazed about how mature this was handled.
First of all, everyone knows that grooming and paedophilia are extremely serious allegations to make towards someone and they absolutely should be taken seriously, and seriously Jared took them. It takes quite a long time to properly gather evidence and receipts, along with getting lawyers involved, to prove someone's innocence. This is something most people who are accused of serious crimes tend to not take the time to do, which ultimately hurts them in the long run. This is also why it took three months for Jared to make a statement, so he can confirm that everything he is saying is accurate and take the time to double-check and triple-check what he was saying.
Secondly, a forty-five-minute video explaining yourself and showing as much evidence as possible is quite mature for a YouTuber's standards. Many YouTube apologies tend to come out immediately when the drama is still relevant and tends to be no more than fifteen minutes long. Because of that, most of the YouTube apology videos tend to be half-assed and not genuine. Many YouTubers also try to dance around the situation and blame it on external factors (see Channel Awesome).
The last thing to look at is all the previous media and posts made by the two original accusers. While some of them have been deleted (as seen in ProJared's statement above), Jared has also shown one of the accuser's Medium accounts with a post claiming that they have psychosis. As someone who does have psychosis, this is not something that I take very lightly. Because of that article, it is extremely hard to tell whether or not the accuser was telling the truth or not. I am not one to completely dismiss the voices of the mentally ill but considering all I know about this person is that article, it is difficult to tell.
As I said in a previous article about cancel culture, many people are prone to jump to conclusions when very little information is made public. Am I saying we should automatically pity Jared and jump back on the ship for him? No, that's not what I'm saying at all. What I am saying is that this was one of the most serious allegations made against a YouTube that was later proven false, and we should be careful if we don't know enough to comment on the subject.
