Male Professors, It's 2018, Stop Assuming Women Cannot Learn Just As Well As The Men

We have "equal rights," but why don't we have equal opportunities?

To start off, I would like to explain the situation. From the beginning of this course I'm in, there has been a 2:9 female to male ratio. I have been completely fine with this, until my male professor started questioning if the females were smart enough to take the course. Not trying to boast, but I took AP Calculus my senior year of high school, and it is basically the same thing as the Calculus 1 class I am in. That being said, I kinda know what I'm doing.

It is 2018, not 1950. Women are just as capable, if not more capable, to do things as men. What really makes me mad is when my professor looks at me and the girl behind me, after almost every problem and says, "Did you get that?" Why didn't he ask the guys in the class if they understood it? Do you not get that we also have a brain that works? Didn't see that one coming did you? We, as women, are just as capable as men to ask questions. We do not need you trying to hold our hands through the semester.

What we do need, is to be respected. We deserve the same treatment as men.

Women can vote, go to school, have a job, own property, and so many other things that we weren't "allowed" to do back in the day. It is not acceptable for grown men to try and diminish our values, our confidence, or our right to have a brain. No offense, but just because it is a male-dominated class or workforce, a woman can still do just as well. I hate how men these days still think of themselves as the dominant sex. Are parents raising their boys to think this way, or is it something they acquire from being in male-dominated classes or teams? To the women who are raising their young boys and maybe even girls, to believe that women should only do things relating to teaching, cleaning, or cooking, you are what is wrong with the world.

Raise your children to believe that women can do just about anything we set our minds to.

That being said, so can men. However, I am just sick and tired of the sexist men, thinking that they are the only ones who can do something "difficult." Look out, because women are taking over the world as we speak. And just because you don't give equal opportunities, doesn't mean that we won't make it work.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
