As we cram for finals, a sweet scent of summer floats through the air. Alas ... summer is almost here! While I am sure we all have great, big plans for this upcoming summer, most of us tend to end up sitting poolside with a book or watching Netflix indoors during our summer breaks. But do not fear! I have created a list of things to do to stay productive and/or have fun this upcoming summer:
To be productive:
1. Clean out your room
While this might not seem like an attractive task, cleaning out your room can actually be extremely satisfying! Take a few hours to clean the dusty shelves in your room; you can donate or sell the items you no longer use or want!
2. Clean out your computer
Again, not the most appealing task ... However, cleaning out your computer and removing the "junk" files can save you a lot of space. It could even help your computer run faster!
3. Sell or donate your old textbooks
We all have a few textbooks that we know we will never use again. This summer, take the time to either donate your old books to your local library or sell them to students who can use them.
4. Learn how to cook/bake
You never know if you like something until you try it, right? So try cooking/baking — if you love it, great! If you don't, then at least you won't starve when you get your first apartment!
To have fun:
1. Pick an old (or new!) hobby back up
Ever since I started college, I know I had to sacrifice a few truly enjoyable hobbies. This summer, why not pick up some of those hobbies, now that you have the time?
2. Explore your town or take a road trip
I doubt you know every single place in your hometown, so go out and explore it with a few friends or family! However, if you do happen to know every nook and cranny of your town, take a road trip. It could be to the next town over or across the country, depending on your budget, of course!
3. Make a decoration for your dorm room
Sick of the empty walls of your dorm room? Why not make a unique and personalized decoration? Explore Pinterest, Etsy, etc. for an hour or two - you will find some awesome things to make!
4. Discover new music
Whether it is by browsing on Spotify, iTunes, and Youtube or attending a local concert, discover new music this summer! This a fun activity that can potentially keep you occupied for months.
5. Reconnect with hometown friends
The distance college creates between friends is devastating. BUT this summer you can reconnect with all (or most) of your hometown friends. I promise that you will not regret it!
