I have been caffeine free (as in no caffeinated drinks) for about a month. The weird thing was that I sort unconsciously made this decision. I noticed I hadn't had any kind of those drinks in about three days, and I just thought I should get rid of it all together. A part of my decision was the headache I had after my brother's birthday party, where a sugary cake and lots of Dr. Pepper wasn't a good mix. I was a main drinker of Dr. Pepper and Vanilla Coke (you will be missed), and I remember my last caffeinated drink was a Vanilla Coke at a Waffle House.
I'm not completely caffeine free because I need my sweet tea from Cookout and M&M's, but it's not like I can make a visit to Cookout every day and eat loads of M&M's. I also still eat ice cream (cookie dough) and brownies.
The main thing is that I'm pretty good until the afternoon when I just want to fall asleep. Usually, I can fight sleepiness, but I rarely can now. Maybe it's because I usually lay and sit on my bed in my room, and it makes my body want sleep. Maybe it's from the loads of homework I force myself to do throughout the day. Maybe it's from not drinking enough water. However, I hate naps and I'm guaranteed to feel awful afterwards. In fact, I tried taking one before writing this, and I feel like I got hit by a truck.
There was one time I sort of messed up. At Taco Bell, I used to get the frozen Mountain Dew Baja Blast. One time I went and ordered my usual, and I didn't notice what I had done until I had already driven away. I did have a sip or two, but I think I gave myself a headache from being so paranoid about what I did.
Otherwise, it's been pretty easy. I drink water when I go out, and there isn't any caffeinated drinks in my apartment. By now, it's sort of has become natural by now to just drink water.
You're probably saying that I'm crazy (I probably am), and it's probably the worst time to quit caffeine (it probably is). But once I get over not being so tired all the time, I can't wait to feel so fresh and not weighed down by the power that caffeine has over us. In the end, it'll be one of the best decisions that I made.
