This past weekend, Arcadia University's Knight Club (our on-campus dance club) had its Spring semester performance, "Oh! What a Knight!" (Yes, we are a fan of our medieval mascot and puns). What you might not know, however, is everything that goes into making a dance show the absolute best it can be. (And for some fun visuals, I'm calling on the cast of "Breaking Bad" to help me out)!
1. Booking Stiteler
![]()
It seems like more and more clubs need to use Stiteler Auditorium for events every semester. And whilst other clubs' needs are entirely valid, as the largest club on campus, there are no other viable sites where the show can be held. Booking Stiteler with Conference Services can be kind of tricky.
2. Making the Show Order
Even though the bi-laws state that a single dancer can only be in up to seven dances each semester, some people are actually crazy
enough to do it (I am also guilty of this, just these past two semester I made the jump to six)! When it comes to figuring out quick-changes and stalls, things can get a bit complicated.
3. Making T-Shirt Designs
This one actually is not so much a struggle as it is more a brag. Being a part of the largest club has its perks! Our budget is quite accommodating which means t-shirts are cheaper for everyone!4. Decorations
Ah yes, running around an hour before the first show starts with colorful streamers and plastic music notes might not sound stressful, but it all has to look just right. Settle for nothing less than the absolute best! (Staying within theme, of course).
5. Community Service
Whether it is finding a charity to donate to in the form of a food drive, bake sale, or clothing collection, 75% of the club needs to participate (which can be tricky when you have well over 100 club members). Out of the goodness of your
heart, you convince your members to participate in some way or another.
6. Costume Budgeting
This one isn't actually too bad. I just wanted to include this GIF of Jesse Pinkman.
7. Organizing Dressing Rooms
Stiteler Auditorium here at Arcadia is quite a small space and doesn't come with wings or dressing rooms, so we have to make do with the computer and film labs whilst avoiding all of the expensive equipment.
8. Remembering Self Care
Whether this means supplying water or opening up windows to make sure that dancers don't overheat in-between numbers, self care is a vital part of any Knight Club show.
9. Ensuring the Technology Works
As finicky as lights and sound systems can be, nothing compares to smoothly running technology throughout a show.
10. Enjoying Every Minute of It
That's the whole point, right?
