How To Prepare For Finals Over Thanksgiving Break

We are reaching the end of the semester rapidly. I never thought it would get to this point! I am ready, how about you guys!?

These tips will help you prepare for those finals that you are not ready for! Prepare early and stress less!

1. Grab those study guides!

Most professors will appreciate you studying as soon as possible. Ask your professor if they are willing to put up the study guides so you can get a head start! There is nothing wrong with wanting to do well on finals. Some professors give them in class, don't fret! IT'S OK! Getting ahead wherever possible helps to keep the amount of stress down.

2. Study Effectively!

We all don't really know how to do this as college students... I am at fault as well. To study effectively you need to find a quiet place that isn't very distracting. This helps because you stay focused without worry.

3. Sleep 8 hours every night!

This is very important. If you do not achieve the amount of sleep, it's OK, but strive to do so. 8 hours of sleep is very beneficial to your body and your mind as well. Once studying then going to sleep, you are more likely to retain most of that information.

4. Get exercise!

Exercising is going to help relieve some of that stress and get your mind off those finals. It will also help you focus in on the material you are studying.

5. Cut out the Caffeine, and energy drinks

A little is OK but having them all the time is a no-no because it will raise your heart rate. This directly impacts your anxiety because of the amount of caffeine that you are consuming. Then this will not help you study and stay focused.

6. Treat yourself!

You are working very hard with finals, treat yourself during after a study session and after finals. You deserve it. You did the best you could and you left it all on that test. Most importantly, the day before, do something for yourself. You have studied hard for this test and doing something the day before helps keep your spirit up.

7. Think Positively

If you begin to think negatively then it is very hard to begin to think positively again. If you think positively going into finals you will have a better mind and you will ultimately feel better. Stay positive because there is no need for negativity near finals. Believe in yourself!

8. DON'T CRAM!

Cramming for finals is one of those things that everyone does. DON'T DO IT! It will not turn out well in the end. Cramming makes you feel overwhelmed and begin those negative thoughts. Get started early to feel less anxiety and stress to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Believe in yourself going into finals and you will be OK! It is OK to stray from these tips and do your own thing! Ultimately, be prepared!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
