It's the most wonderful time of the year for movie fans. As 2015 draws to a close, devoted film buffs and average viewers alike will tally up the year's best cinematic efforts in time for annual award ceremonies. Various critics choice award nominations and winners have been announced during the past few weeks, but it was the recent reveal of this year's Golden Globe nominations that has officially signaled the beginning of the 2016 movie awards season that will celebrate this year's most prestigious achievements in filmmaking.

Of course, no other awards ceremony generates as much buzz as the Oscars. As the announcement of the 88th Annual Academy Award nominees approaches, the talk of who will take home the gold will only grow. Unfortunately for me, I have not seen most of the year's biggest contenders. Even though most of these films mark the return of some of the best directors in Hollywood, such as Steven Spielberg, Danny Boyle and Ridley Scott, they haven't really peaked my interest. This is mainly due to the fact that I always see the same types of movies released every awards season. There's the well-acted biopic ("Steve Jobs"), the historical epic ("Bridge of Spies"), the beautiful British period piece ("The Danish Girl") and something starring either Meryl Streep or Jennifer Lawrence ("Suffragette" and "Joy").

2015 hasn't seen a great deal of truly moving and mind-blowing films, but there have been a small number of gems which either surpassed or defied all expectations. Regardless of this year's apparent lack of originality in filmmaking, I am still pretty pumped to see who and what will be recognized during the Oscars in February. So, in anticipation for the big event, I have made a list of films I believe will (and should) be nominated for a number of Oscars.

Note: Most of this list is based on the amount of recognition from other ceremonies as well my own personal opinion.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
