When it comes to television shows I don't think we give enough credit to the shows that center around strong female characters. We are too wrapped up in the male characters, and the action or romance that we don't realize how strong these females are. So here are the top five shows with the strongest female characters I know.
1. Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars was about a girl who was a teenage private investigator. It aired on The CW from 2004-2007. Veronica survived her best friend being murdered, being drugged and rapped at a high school house party. Veronica was socially ostracized, attacked, and she almost died in one episode. Through out everything she remained strong and independent. She didn't let anyone knock her down she fought constantly for herself, her friends, family, and justice. There is no character stronger than her that is why she earns the number one spot.
2. One Tree Hill
Tree Hill isn't just home to the Ravens its home to some badass women as well. Peyton Sawyer, Brook Davis and Haley James were fierce they stopped at nothing when it came to their friends and family.
Peyton Sawyer lost her mothers, was attacked by Psycho Derek (remember him? He was a creep), she was also shot. But she got back up, and she regained her strength after every obstacle.
Brooke Davis was one girl you didn't want to mess with. She was Queen B and a bitch but she was someone with the kindest heart as well. She was heartbroken, beaten, robbed, and she got up every time. Brooke protected her friends, and family to the fullest. She even started her own fashion line when she was 17!
Haley James was one hell of a character as well smart, loyal, independent. She was the one who everyone came to when they needed someone to talk to. Haley got married young, had a baby, and faced crazy nannies and in-laws. She also experienced deaths of people close to her. But it never stopped her she kept on moving on and was always the Haley every one loved
These three characters deserve a spot on this list. They also can throw punches like nobody else.
3. Charmed
Charmed aired on The WB from 1998-2006. Charmed was a show about the Halliwell sisters four of the most powerful witches and the charmed ones. These sisters fought the source of evil, lost their loved ones, and went to hell and back. They dealt with some very difficult love lives as well. They faced their new powers that they didn't know how to control. Yet they never swayed from their task of protecting innocents. No matter what they were dealing with they fought for those who could not fight. Which is why they deserve a spot on this list.
4. Gilmore Girls
Of course I the Gilmore girls of Star Hollow are on the list. Gilmore Girls first aired on The WB then The CW replaced the previous network, the show aired from 2000-2007. This show centers on Lorelai and Rory Gilmore two smart independent women. Lorelai ran the town Inn and was a good role model for Rory. Lorelai had Roy at the age of 17 but she never let anything stop her when it came to Rory. Rory was a straight A student and went on to study at Yale. She focused on important things and strived to always make herself better. These women didn't need to depend on anyone as long as they had each other. They were strong willed and lived their lives the way they wanted to.
5. The Fosters
The Fosters is about the lives of the diverse Adams-Foster family it aired in 2013. It has multiple strong female characters but there's one in particular that most girls can relate to. Callie Jacob is the main character she grew up in the foster care system after the death her mother and the imprisonment of her father. Being in the system gave her a hard life bouncing from one bad home to another. Callie often feels as though she isn't good enough and that she doesn't deserve the love that is eventually given to her by her new loving home. She hasn't had this kind of love in a long time and doesn't know how to handle it. Callie is strong and independent and she doesn't give up. She eventually learns to accept the love and starts feel wanted. A lot of girls go through what Callie has been through which is why she is one the list
Overall strong female characters are vastly over looked. Viewers sometimes do not realize how important these types of shows and characters are. They change the game and teach young women how to be strong in the face of adversity.
