Spring break and I have a love-hate relationship. Believe me, having the opportunity to just take a nice break to relax a bit in the middle of the semester is truly incredible. But trying to get back into the swing of things once classes are back in session is where it dreadfully sucks.
Whether you're spending it hanging out with friends, bumming around, grubbing more than usual or going to bed and waking up later than permitted on a typical weekday, you will most likely dread that first day of being back in class (perhaps even dread the entire week). Here are some of my two-cents on how to get back on the grind of things.
1. Workout.
Everyone has their own personal daily routine. I, personally, am a morning person, so I don't mind getting up a bit earlier just for the sake of squeezing in a morning workout routine. Depending on how tight of a schedule you have, it can be something small like a quick five minute stretch or if you have time, perhaps an hour's jog.
After waking up, making my bed and washing up, I like to get in a quick morning yoga routine to wake up my body and get everything opened up for the rest of the day. I go to Tara Stiles for all my yoga routines and for the morning, this routine of hers specifically. Nothing too harsh on the body nor too lengthy to make you run late.
If you're looking for something maybe later in the day, then I usually like to do her Yoga for Holiday Meal Digestion routine after dinner.
2. Drinking.
Yes, water is important in your life, but let's get real, it can get pretty boring at times, especially if it's the only type of liquid you're ever intaking. That is why I like to add a little spice in my hydration life, while still staying on top of my health, by incorporating teas into my diet.
Besides green tea having always been my tea selection bias, I have recently become obsessed with Korean honey tea when my sister introduced it to me at the beginning of the year. I go through so many cups of these within a day, it's ridiculous, because I'm pretty sure I can finish an entire jar of these Korean honey teas alone in a single day. And they can be served either hot or cold, my preference being hot.
3. Eating.
If I feel really guilty about my diet over the break, then I usually like to go on a raw diet for a week or so. That limits me to only eating things that won't require me to utilize the stove (i.e. fresh fruits and veggies). Although I will admit, I do make a slight exception for some things like eggs.
It sounds weird at first, but it really isn't all too bad when you go in to implement it.
4. Sleeping.
You might be tired of hearing this by now, but it's true. Try to get in seven-eight hours of sleep. It's really not that bad of a sleep schedule when you think about it. Knock out at 10:30 p.m., wake up at 5:30 a.m. (or 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.)
Follow all of these and I promise you, you will be on your way to feeling more rejuvenated and refreshed than ever.
