The one thing that has the power to bring thousands of people together is music. Whether we are jamming in the car or waiting for our next class to start, we are always listening to something we enjoy on our headphones. Whether or not you have a favorite artist, we would all love to attend as many concerts as we can. There's no better feeling than seeing that your favorite artist is coming to a city near you. Actually, a better feeling is seeing that the tickets won't empty your bank account. As soon as I receive the confirmation email saying, "Congratulations, you are going to see so and so!," I get a rush and immediately start planning for that day.
When the day comes, I have every second planned out. From the time I wake up, to the time I have to fill up my car with gas to hit the road. I am not one to arrive 15 minutes early to anything, in fact, I'll probably always be 15 minutes late, but with my favorite artist, I arrived nine hours before they even opened the door, and that's how I got to be on the front row.
Unfortunately, there's always an opening number and it's not always a good band. In my last concert, I had to endure 45 minutes of a band that just screamed into the microphone. My vibe was gone but thank god the DJ saved the night. As soon as he dropped some beats, then announced that the artist was coming out, I filled with euphoria. The beat to one of my favorite songs dropped, and I was lost in the music for the night.
While concerts can get crowded, especially if you're in the pit or in the front rows, you have to be careful of your surroundings. We're all here for the same reason, to listen to our favorite songs and to enjoy the night. It's not going to be fun for anyone if all you're doing is hitting each other with elbows, or trying to crowd surf when it's completely uncalled for. God forbid that the artist comes into the crow because some hands will be thrown. While in the moment, you don't realize that you're actually shoving your elbows against each other, you'll feel it the next day when you're covered in bruises. Just be cautious and courteous to others around you.
Hearing the song you've been playing in your car over and over again live almost never feels real. You're actually singing along (in my case trying to rap) with your favorite artist. You know all the words and just go along with all of it. If you're lucky enough like yours truly, your favorite artist will let you sing into the microphone. #blessed. Now when you hear that song on the radio you have all bragging rights about seeing it live.
Attending a concert should be an experience that everyone has in their books. Whether it's a music festival or just a small gig, everyone there has that similar interest as you. In the meantime, I'll be saving my change and sticking it into my concert fund jar until next time one of my favorite artists comes around.
