As we head into the new year we are leaving behind a year of events that have shaped us as individuals as well as the whole of our country. Sadly, we find that too many of these events are the bad. They're the ones that make us view the past year of our lives as one full of destruction and hate. However, by focusing so much on the negative, we might forget to take a look at the happy, the joyful, and the lighter things that 2015 brought to our attention. Here's a light and fluffy look at the past year.
It was at the 72nd Annual Golden Globes that we learned (according to Jeremy Renner), that we can use the term "globes" in several different ways.
Although the winter storms of 2015 were pretty much just a pain in the East's ass, there were some silver linings. One of these was when several natives and tourists enjoyed a very rare occurrence: a nearly-empty Times Square.
It was in January that the country turned to its favorite scientist, Bill Nye, to explain the science behind the very controversial Deflate Gate.
Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig reprised their roles as Kat and Garth for the 40th Saturday Night Live Anniversary (which aired on February 15th), joining generations of other SNL cast members for the special event.
Two women are interviewed after watching the film "Fifty Shades of Grey" (which premiered in Late January) and it is reasonable enough to assume that their reaction was very similar to that of the rest of the country.
Duke University fans not only support their basketball team, but also its coach at the NCAA 2015 Championship, in which the Blue Devils won and Coach Mike Krzyzewski's got the 999th win of his career.
But can any picture truly do this justice?
Not only does this picture make you smile, but it also captures the emotion and meaning behind the Pope's trip to the US as a whole.
Sanders: "Enough of the emails. Let's talk about the real issues facing America."
Clinton: "Thank you, Bernie!"
Adele, Jimmy Fallon, and the Roots made us grin like children when they performed her hit "Hello" with classroom instruments (yes, she is singing into a kiddie cellphone).
During 2015, SNL continued to provide a lighter, comedic side to national and global topics, like when Hillary Clinton (as a bartender) joined Kate McKinnon (as Hillary Clinton) for a sketch.
What's a better way to end this article (and the year) than with the miracle of birth? However, this pair is a little special. Although they are twins, they have different birthdays. The one on the left, Jaelyn, came into the world during the last minutes of 2015, while her brother, Luis, was born during the first minutes of the new year.
Hopefully by recapping this past year in a more positive perspective, our perspective on the last year of our lives will change as well. Yes, 2015 was filled with adversity, tragedy, and disaster. However, while this is true, we cannot forget that 2015 provided many opportunities for us to smile even through all of the negativity.
