The game doesn't do a very good job of informing it's players on how to play. So here are some tips to hopefully make your Pokémon Go experience more enjoyable.
Tip number 1: Catching Pokémon, you can spin your Pokéball to make it harder for the Pokemon to escape. However, when you spin the ball, toss it slightly to the right or left (depending on which way you spin it) of the Pokémon. This is because the ball will curve, since it is spinning. However, don't use the spin trick on flying Pokémon. It doesn't work on them.
Tip number 2: Pokéstops refresh approximately every 5 minutes, so don't be afraid to keep collecting items from one if you're in the surrounding aread for a while.
Tip number 3: When choosing the settings icon, you'll come across a battery saver option. Turning battery saver to on will allow you to turn the phone upside down, and save some battery while walking around. Walking around is good for hatching eggs, and to collect jogger badges. Remember, the app must be open to count your steps.
Tip number 4: If you're playing Pokémon Go, and you're in a vehicle moving faster than 15 mph, it will not monitor your steps.
Tip Number 5: When Pokéstops give you eggs, a 2.0 egg is a common animal. A 5.0 egg is a rare one, and a 10.0 egg is really rare.
Tip number 6: The surrounding Pokemon in the area menu is in the bottom right of the main screen. Three footsteps under the Pokemon means that the Pokémon is 300 meters away or less. 2 foot prints means 200 meters away or less, and 1 foot print means 100 meters away or less.
Tip number 7: If the has no footsteps underneath him just click him in the surrounding Pokémon in the area menu, and it will automatically appear.
Tip number 8: When fighting gym battles, you can't defeat your own gyms colors. You can buff it to add an extra slot, so that your Pokémon can join them. When helping defend, or defending your gym color, you can click the shop icon. The shield in the top right corner will give you star dust and coins.
Tip number 9: After you click on a wild Pokémon, the location of the Pokémon moves with you. So no need to stop the car in the middle of the road to catch it.
Tip number 10: Your level limits the rarity of Pokémon you may encounter in the wild.
Tip number 11: When you're trying to capture a wild Pokémon, a green ring around the Pokémon's body means it is an easy catch. Yellow rings mean that catch will be hard, and the same follows for orange and red. Using Razzberries will help calm down the Pokemon, making it easier to catch.
Hope this was helpful to someone. Go out and catch them all.
