I hear the term a lot, "pointless class." Public speaking or when they are taking their fine arts elective. On the flip side, you have the art majors that have to take stats and college algebra. Well, as much as these things may not seem to have anything to do with your major or you don't see any benefit from them I am here to tell you that you are wrong.

First off we really don't know how things are going to affect us until way later in our lives. You could take an acting class for your fine arts elective and then really fall in love with acting and it could become your new hobby. This is kind of a random example but there are some that are much more realistic.

Like public speaking. I have heard many people say that public speaking is a pointless class which is crazy! Everyone in every major in every place in the world needs to know how to speak in public. Public speaking may not seem that important but it is. You need to be able to articulate well in job interviews and presentations and really at every point in life.

Another thing is that's just one more experience you get to have. One more thing that will help you see from a different perspective. One of the great things about the Gen Ed classes is that everyone has to take them. You get to converse with people that have completely different goals than you and lives and hobbies.

Next time you take one of these "pointless" classes make sure you think of these things and try and have a positive attudute. Clearly there are reasons that colleges require everyone to take these types of classes. You will always gain from theses classes. Whether that is the material, the experiences, or the people you meet while there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
