If you like music at all, you have been listening to Kendrick Lamar's latest album "DAMN" since its release on Friday, April 14th. Of course, it comes as no surprise that the album is both musically daring and beautiful. It is also no surprise that "DAMN" is extremely sociopolitically conscious and active, specifically racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. As a white woman, this album was not made for me. Nevertheless, I appreciate each and every track at the level of understanding that I am capable of.

As a poet, I appreciate every single line, every single lyric on this album. While Lamar uses a collaborative effort on his music, his heart is in every single word. Every since I heard his second studio album "good kid, m.A.A.d city," Kendrick Lamar has been one of my favorite poets. Hip-Hop and rap do not always get the credit they deserve in the poetry world.I thought to pay homage to "DAMN," I would do a poet's guide to the new Kung-Fu Kenny by picking my favorite lines from each track and then the runner-up.

1. Blood

"Is it wickedness? / Is it weakness? / You decide / Are we gonna live or die?"

Honorable mention: "Lamar stated his views on police brutality with that line in the song, quote: 'And we hate the popo, wanna kill us in the street fo' sho'…'

Oh please, ugh, I don't like it."

2. DNA

"I'd rather die than to listen to you / My DNA not for imitation / Your DNA an abomination"

Honorable mention: "Realness, I just kill shit 'cause it's in my DNA / I got millions, I got riches buildin’ in my DNA / I got dark, I got evil, that rot inside my DNA / I got off, I got troublesome, heart inside my DNA"

3. Yah

"Interviews wanna know my thoughts and opinions / Fox News wanna use my name for percentage / My latest muse is my niece, she worth livin' / See me on the TV and scream: "That's Uncle Kendrick!"

5. Feel

6. Loyalty
