Poetry On Odyssey: Dear Girl

A poem to the girl I used to be, and am starting to become once again.

Dear Girl,

It's been a while since I've seen you,

Longer since I've felt you,

And longer since I've been you.

Dear Girl,

It's been years,

I don't know how many,

I think it's been four and that is too many

Dear Girl,

You used to be so free,

So perfectly imperfect,

So young and so restless.

Dear Girl,

Your smile used to shine bright,

Your eyes used to sparkle,

And your laugh used to bring joy.

Dear Girl,

You were short lived but still loved.

Your time was brief but still much to remember.

Your experiences ones to tell stories about.

Dear Girl,

You used to love yourself,

You used to stick up for yourself,

You used to be proud of yourself.

Dear Girl,

You lost your way.

You let one boy dull your light,

You let one boy steal your joy.

Dear Girl,

You let one boy stop you,

Let one boy hurt you,

But did not let one boy break you.

Dear Girl,

Not all paths are easy to take,

The road to recovery is a long one,

But you are plowing through it.

Dear Girl,

You are getting stronger and stronger,

You are no longer a victim,

You are staking your claim as a survivor.

Dear Girl,

I see you getting closer,

I see you pushing past the girl who has taken over,

I see you starting to shine through.

Dear Girl,

You are becoming yourself again.

Slowly but surely you are rising,

You are smiling, you are shining.

Dear Girl,

I have missed you,

I have waited for you,

I can not wait to once again be you.

Dear Girl,

Welcome back,

This time, stay a while.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
