Sometimes, you don’t have the words.
The ideas are mixing,
And the ink refuses to run onto the page.
You’ve been staring at the blinking cursor
For what feels like ages.
Your backspace key is your new best friend
Because everything feels wrong.
Your shoulders slump,
And your stare becomes a glare.
You’re supposed to be able to do this.
Writing is your thing.
My friend, you don’t always need to know.
It’s okay if you need a break.
Don’t be afraid to step away.
Go outside, watch a movie,
See a friend, exercise,
Do something.
Let your mind step away for a while.
Take a break.
Your mind will thank you,
And it will start to work through your blockage.
The ideas will straighten themselves out
And the words will find their order.
Your fingers will itch to write,
And the ink will flow.
You don’t always have to have the ideas figured out,
But it will work out in time.
