We were strangers at the start,
Two kids lost in the sea of school.
We met.
We bonded.
We played and discovered.
We imagined worlds and lives so different from our own,
Together our imaginations roamed.
We grew together,
Fast as could be.
Our friendship seemed to span eternity.
We went to different schools,
Seeming worlds apart.
But we still found our common ground,
Movies, games, the arts.
High school together,
Musicals, homework and dances,
Busy but hanging when we got our chances.
Life moved on,
And college came around.
I left,
You stayed.
We found new homes,
New friends,
New lives.
A world away.
But over the distance
Your calls slowly came,
Our texts,
Our messages,
However inane.
We stayed close despite the distance,
And this experience warrants an admittance.
Some family is born,
With no choice but to love.
But some family doesn’t come from above.
Sometimes those we meet,
Become bonded stronger than any concrete.
Family can always be the ones we choose,
And sometimes we never know how much we can lose.
Our luck can be to meet the best,
And although our friendship has been put to the test.
I hope this is as true to you as it is to me,
Although we came from different mothers,
In my heart, you are forever my brother.
