Please Excuse Me If I'm Not Politically Correct

I have written my opinion with no intent to offend anyone.

I am writing this with no intent to offend anyone. I am not writing this to say any one person is more right than another. However, as a citizen of the United States of America, I am allowed the freedom of speech and expression.

I am horribly saddened by the lack of sympathy and violence our nation has taken, as a whole. Whether the lives that have been taken are black, white, gay, members of society in uniform or members of society who express their rights to bare arms. I am deeply saddened their lives were taken too fast, too soon, and for reasons unknown.

I didn't grow up in a world that knew the difference between the color of your skin or the God you prayed to. I knew I was given a good life, in fact, a great life, with opportunity and promise. Despite being given a good life, I currently don't feel as though I am living in a good world.

There is constant debate about "black lives matter" which, they do. And then the other debate that "white lives matter, too" which is also correct. And I understand the racism, injustice, and corruption our nation experiences daily. However, I don't believe this is an excuse to abuse our moral obligation to be civil human beings.

The media has allowed us to jump to a desire of hatred as opposed to a desire for more knowledge and understanding. Twitter, Facebook, and an array of the social media sites have shown us videos and opinion that skew of the reality and truth of many situations. So we decide to hate, we decide to be angry and we decide to be ignorant, maybe just simply because we don't know enough.

I will not sit here and make the claim to anyone that I know everything nor that I am correct in my opinion. But my opinion is just simply this: I am sick and tired of hearing that humans, whether their skin is any color, identify with the LGBTQ community or hold any authority in our society, are dying left and right due to unnecessary violence.

Just because someone is privileged, doesn't make them ignorant and racist. And just because someone is wearing a uniform, doesn't mean they have your best interest at heart, but it also doesn't imply that they don't.

It is a reality that bad things will happen. It is a reality that racism exists and judgments and blame will occur. And yes, I am angry that when a black man gets shot, his mug shot is shown but when a white female is accused of murder, her prom picture is what we see. That makes me angry.

And let's be clear, this isn't an article of expressing love instead of hate. This is an article to state that I am angry with how we treat one another and the lack of sympathy shown toward the deaths that have occurred. This includes everyone. This does not single out one "group" from another nor one race or religion. We are a nation that once stated that we are United, where did that go?

We live in a day and age where I think we forget that there is still good in humanity. We are so used to there being so much bad and so much hate that we forget that it's possible to be open minded and take a stand.

My stand isn't just for black members of society. Nor is just for the men wearing a uniform. I want to stand and speak my mind about the citizens of the United States, the human beings of this country.

I want to live a country and in a world that I am proud to say I am a part of. And today, I am not as proud as I should be to say that I am a member of the United States of America that stands for unity, freedom, and acceptance.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
