"Play it safe" is a commonly used phrase when one does not want to take a risk even if the outcome could be more beneficial to them. There are areas in life where you need to take risks. Don't hold yourself back from being the best you, you can be. Playing it safe isn't always safe.
Did you know that tens of thousands of people seriously injure themselves by getting out of bed in the morning? Most of us would consider this activity to be very safe. You can get injured doing so many stupid things that you categorize as safe like walking up the stairs. Even when you think you are safe, that is not always the case.
Playing it safe is actually dangerous if we look at the big picture of life. By not taking risks, we are incapable of living our lives to our fullest potential. Live outside of the box that society places you into. Don't follow the heard. Don't settle for a life that you are comfortable with. Don't settle for the house with a white picket fence in the suburbs, two kids with a man that makes you "happy", a golden retriever, and a mini van if that isn't what you imagined your life to look like.
In order to grow, we must step outside of our comfort zone. By doing this we learn who we really are and who we really want to be. Being only content with your life is boring. Often times we let ourselves just go through the motions of our lives. That is no way to live. You should do all things with passion, and be truly happy when you are doing them. You need to live a life that you love.
Remember all of those big dreams you had when you were a little kid? Chase them. It's not too late to start. You never know if you don't try. You should not have live with the regret of not trying to achieve what your childhood dreams.
So go ahead, kiss that cute boy, change your major if you don't see yourself doing that as a career, your move out of your hometown if it's holding you back, take a spontaneous road trip with your best friends. Live your life, and most importantly, love the life that you're living. Don't play it safe all of the time.
Take risks, learn, and grow.
