How to Plan Ahead

People can get stressed easily, and often overwhelmed by their work load. Sometimes panic ensues and procrastination takes control. So how do you manage your time, how do you avoid procrastination? Hopefully this list will help you figure out what to do with your life so you can have some free time!

  1. Write a list of everything you need to do
A list will help you see what you need to do in a visual way. If you make your list pretty, you will feel more motivated to accomplish the tasks on your list. When you cross something off your list, you get a sense of accomplishment, and may want to continue on this track of completing things on your list.
  2. Figure out what is due first
Writing down due dates is important. Start with what is due first, and do your best to complete it before you complete the other things on your list.
  3. Pick the subject you like the most
If you like a certain subject more than another, start with that subject. This will help you get in a better mood to do other subjects that you may not like as much.
  4. Work on it whenever you are free
If you have free time, do your homework. Do not cave and binge Netflix. If you have ten minutes before class, do some reading, if you have an hour free, do some math problems. Fit your work in your schedule that best suits you. This will help you get it done faster, and in a way that when you have longer amounts of free time, you can actually do the stuff you enjoy.
  5. Take short breaks
After you finish a subject, take a break. Go get coffee, watch ONE episode of that show you’re watching, go for a walk, do some laundry. This will give you some time to clear your head and start fresh when you proceed to your next subject.
  6. Move to a small task when you finish a larger task
After you finished a large task, like writing a paper or finishing a presentation, do a smaller task. Read a chapter, do one homework problem. Doing two large tasks consecutively could overwhelm you, and stress you out more than you already are.
  7. Find What Motivates You
Motivate yourself. Treat yourself with candy, watch a movie, go out with your friends, just find something you love. Reward yourself when you are finished. Pavlov yourself into doing your work. If you have something to look forward to when doing your work, you'll get your work done faster, and you'll set more time aside to do your work.
  8. Don't Procrastinate
When you know you need to do something, just do it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
