Like many college students, I plan ahead of time when it comes to assignments, events, and club meetings. However, we do not always follow through with our planned schedule due to stress and distractions...especially on the weekends! Here are a few ways to help you follow through with your plans in order for you to complete assignments and attend your planned events!
1. Listen to music ONLY when you are working on Maths!
Many listen to music while working on assignments involving reading, writing, and understanding. Personally, I have realized that when I am listening to music (either calmer or louder music,) it is very difficult to maintain the same level of attentiveness I had when I first began the assignment. Generally, courses involving readings require more focus and undivided attention. Nonetheless, since mathematics is all about logic of shape, quantity, and arrangement--music does not negatively affect our level of attention when solving problems. Everyone studies and works at a different pace with different strategies, so if you NEED to listen to music in order to complete any homework, it is best to create a playlist that will motivate you to work.
2. Set Reminders on your digital calendars or clearly write your events in your paper calendars!
This will help you remember which day your appointment is booked for, along with knowing when your papers and projects are due in the future! This will also save you plenty of time from checking your syllabuses regularly to see what assignment is due next.
3. Give your phone (or something else that you can't get enough of) to your parent, sibling, or friend
when you're trying to get work done. Either this or turning your phone completely off will help you focus on the more important things. Along with this, you can try temporarily blocking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube when you are working.
4. Wake up earlier!
Sometimes you just have to give up your last hour of sleep since we are more focused in the morning. Waking up earlier allows us to start fresh and naturally avoid distractions for a short amount of time. This is also a great idea for anyone with siblings (since they are also a distraction, in a way!) Also, in order to wake up early you will need to try your best to sleep early the night before...otherwise you will end up like him:
5. Balance.
This is most important out of all tips. In order for you to be motivated and determined to study and complete assignments, you will need to spend more time on yourself. One way or another, it is important to take breaks while working and keeping a fine balance between your lifestyle and your work world. This also goes for evenly distributing work and studying in your schedule. You should stray from adding too much on your schedule in order to reach your end-of-the-day goal!
