Whether you have to study for a midterm, have a massive paper to write, or just want to get out of the George Washington University campus, here are five of the best spots to work close by. So grab a bike or your metro card, and get working!
1. Soho Coffee & Tea
Location: 2150 P St NW, Washington, DC 20037
Hours: 7am-10pm M-F
Location on P Street, near DuPont circle, Soho Coffee and Tea is one of my favorite study spaces in the city. The atmosphere is very relaxed and soothing, and the staff is very friendly.
Although the wifi can be iffy when there are a lot of people there, it doesn't stop the place from being both productive, and it is open late, making it an amazing space to study with your friends. There is also so much to do in the area, and great food all around, making the experience of studying just a little bit better.
2. Peet's Coffee & Tea
Location: 1701 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20006
Hours: 6am-8pm M-F 7am-7pm Weekends
Although it is relatively busy here, this Peet's is one of the most productive places for me to study.
Located across the street from the White House and the Executive Building, it is a nice place to walk to on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy some coffee. The view is fantastic, and if you get bored of your work you can always look out the window and people watch. It also has a fantastic big table where you can sit with your friends and actually get some work done, which is exactly where I am sitting right now as I type this.
3. The Library of Congress
Location: 101 Independence Ave SE, Washington, DC 20540
Hours: MWTR 8:30-9:30, TFS 9:30-4, closed Sunday
Living in D.C. has so many perks, and being able to study in the Library of Congress is just one of them. The building and main reading room are absolutely beautiful, and it feels almost magical. In order to work and research in the reading room however, you must obtain a Reader Identification Card, which you can easily get my going to the front desk, showing a valid ID, and filling out an application.
It also has pretty strict rules to follow, so be sure and check those out before you go.
4. Dolcezza Gelato & Coffee
Location: 1560 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007
Hours: M-TR 7am-10pm, F 7am-11pm, Sat 8am-11pm, Sun 8am-10pm
Only located in D.C., Dolcezza is my go-to place to get gelato whenever in the mood. They have various shops around the city, including DuPont, and Logan Circle, although the Georgetown location is my favorite. Not only is the coffee amazing, but the vibe of the shop is wonderful. There is seating upstairs, and although it is small, there usually aren't too many people there, and the wifi works.
5. Ebenezers Coffeehouse
Location: 201 F St NE, Washington, DC 20002
Hours: M-F 7am-9pm, and Weekends 8am-9pm
Although it is not the closest place to go, it is definitely worth the twenty-minute metro ride to Union Station. The atmosphere is very chill, and there are even shows and open mic nights on the weekends.
In addition to having really good and free wifi, the coffee and tea are some of the best I've had. I would recommend Ebenezers to anyone looking to try some great coffee and get some work done.
