I might be biased, but I personally believe that California has the most beautiful name of any of the states. The letters go perfectly together and look really, dang good when written out in cursive font. Still, this isn't the characteristic of our state that makes it such a wonderful place to be. It boasts many amenities inside and outside of the big cities.

One of the great things about California is the number of amazing places to visit, as well as the variety among them. Even within the Los Angeles area, you can visit a beach, a mountain, a waterfall, and more. The same is true of the state as a whole: There are beaches to see, mountains to hike, small unique towns to visit, and plenty more.

The state is also huge. So it might be tough to know where exactly you should go beyond the Los Angeles county limits. Here are six destinations across the Golden State that you need to see, even if it takes a few hours to get there.

1. Napa Valley

Napa is up near Sacramento, so certainly not a day trip from Los Angeles, but is definitely something you need to see. It's a huge place for wine lovers or anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. There's even a Napa Valley Wine Train...what's not to love?

2. Big Sur

Big Sur is a picturesque section of the California coastline, right along Route 1. If you're ever driving to San Francisco, I'd recommend taking the coastal drive rather than the I-5. If the $1.5 million average price tag on homes there doesn't convince you of how out-of-this-world it is, just check out the many Instagram pics people have posted from this coastline.

3. Morro Bay

Morro Bay is also along the coast but is closer to Los Angeles than Big Sur. While you're there you can see Morro Rock, a "volcanic plug," as well as many other unique environmental features. It's a quaint and historic beach town that'll give you a nice escape from big city life.

4. Death Valley National Park

It's name certainly doesn't sound wonderful, but Death Valley is a sight to see. It's towards the border of California and Nevada, and consequently isn't far off from Las Vegas (so why not take a stop on your way?). It can be incredibly hot there so choose the time of year to visit mindfully. Assuming it's not broiling, it's a great place for a hike.

5. Big Bear

Big Bear Lake and Bear Mountain aren't far from LA at all, but provide an awesome vacation spot. If you're into skiing you can spend your time at the mountain, or you can spend your time fishing at the lake.

6. Solvang

Solvang is a quaint little town that'll make you feel like you're stepping into a piece of Europe. It's got a rich Danish background and all kinds of things to do. It isn't too far beyond Santa Barbara, either, so the trip to the town won't take up your whole day.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
