The Best Places To Get Ice Cream In The Shenandoah Valley

The Best Places To Get Ice Cream In The Shenandoah Valley

With the scorching hot summer months quickly approaching, people around Harrisonburg and the surrounding towns are definitely going to start looking for whatever way they can to cool off. Ice cream is always my go-to, so I've composed a list of my absolute favorite ice cream places in Harrisonburg, Bridgewater, and Staunton.

1. Kline's Dairy Bar

This homemade ice cream place only offers three soft serve flavors at a time: chocolate, vanilla, and the flavor of the week (which can range anywhere from brownie batter to raspberry cheesecake). But don't worry about the lack of options: the chocolate and vanilla alone are some of the best original flavors out there. There are two Kline's locations in Harrisonburg and one about 30 minutes from Harrisonburg in Staunton.

2. Sweet Frog

This well-known frozen yogurt place offers countless flavors and even more toppings to peruse. Go crazy and fill your cup up with whatever varieties you want; just be careful not to go too overboard, because you still have to pay for it at the end based on the weight!

3. Dairy Queen

Get your classic blizzard, even in the middle of summer! There are two fantastic locations to visit in Harrisonburg and one in Bridgewater about 15 minutes away. Cool off any time. It may be overpriced, but where else can you get ice cream blended with a candy toppings? Actually...probably a lot of places.

4. Cookout

Cookout probably isn't always the very first place you think of when talking about classic ice cream places, but I could hardly ignore the magic of their milkshakes. Giant, sugar filled, and not a bad price, these milkshakes should not be missed out on.

5. The Split Banana

This beautifully old-fashioned gelato place is a rather lengthy but scenic 30-minute drive from Harrisonburg in Staunton. Though the prices are a bit more than some people may be used to, the richness of the flavors makes the high price more than worth it. The area around the shop also allows for a fantastic place to take an evening stroll through the streets of the historic downtown of Staunton.
