I was inspired by my good friend from college, who has adopted not one but two foster pets during this time of quarantining, to put together this article.
Now is the time to adopt an animal! Think about it: the excuse or issue most people who want a pet find in adopting one is TIME... especially if you're planning on adopting a puppy or kitten.
"I won't have time to train them."
"I don't have enough time home right now to make sure they get used to the house."
"What if my untrained dog chews up my couch while I'm gone."
They're all valid concerns IF were weren't basically locked up in our houses right now! You now have more time than you likely ever will to train, familiarize and adjust. This is the best time I can think of to ensure a little furry addition to your family gets the attention it requires as it adjusts to its new life.
The animals below are available for adoption. Please remember that, while you do have extra time to spend with a potential pet right now, your calendar is not always going to be this free. Adoption is a long term commitment. These animals have been bounced around homes enough and are in need of a forever home.
This brings me to fostering! Although these animals are looking to be adopted, there are plenty of animals that need a foster home until the right person comes along to take them home forever.
Reasons to foster over quarantine:
1) Help attend to an animal in need.
2) See if having that type of pet is a fit for you before committing to a permanent adoption.
3) We've just established that you have more time now than you ever will... so if there was ever a time it's now!
If you'd like to be considered to foster, you can find information and applications at The Foster Farm, Paws Across Pittsburgh, Animal Friends, Humane Animal Rescue, and so many more.
You can also go to these organizations' homepages and click the link to donate if you're unable to take an animal in but would like to improve their lives.
