There was an article that was written attacking pitbulls and saying that they're horrible dogs because that's how they were bred to be.
First off, let me say that the term "pitbull" defines the bully and terrier breeds, such as the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Therefore with the article this girl wrote, she's grouping those three completely different breeds in one group and calling them all bad dogs.
This article stays that these dogs have it bred into them to attack. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong! Yes, these dogs were originally bred to be "bait" dogs but over time they have evolved. Nowadays these dogs are working dogs and dare I even say it NANNY DOGS. Yes, that's right there are people out there that will trust these horrible and vicious dogs with their kids. Somebody quick call 911.
The author of the article groups all of these different dogs into one group- HORRIBLE, MEAN, VICIOUS. You want to know the reasoning? Because she was attacked by one of these dogs.
But shall we look at some statistics? In 2016 www.thesun.co.uk put out an article called Jack Russell tops cops' list of dogs most likely to bite humans. I bet you can guess what dog was #1; yes that's right, the Jack Russell Terrier. People think that just because these breed of dogs are little that they won't attack. Once again, wrong.
I'm sure we all are familiar with Caesar Milan. On his website, he has an article about he most dangerous dog. Can you guess what breed it is? If you guessed pitbull, you're wrong. In his article Caesar defines the most dangerous dog as "the one that has been made that way by a human." He also states that years ago, pitbulls were used to guard houses and as nanny dogs (which I said earlier in the article). He states that the pitbulls had a well reputation as a nanny dog and that stories of pitbull attacks weren't heard of.
But, times changed. Gangs and dog fighting. The dogs used to fight were ones with power; Pitbulls, German Shepards, Rottweilers. Now if the gangs would have chosen a more "family oriented breed" such as the Australian Shepherds, or the Lab breeds, people probably wouldn't be afraid of them.
Have you been to a animal shelter lately? Do you know what breeds are mostly in there? The ones that are defined as "pitbulls". These dogs are DOOMED from the minute they walk into the shelter. They will be put down because people see them not fit to be a family dog. It's heartbreaking. I look at my dog Colt, who is a Australian Shepherd x Blue Heeler x "Pitbull", and I don't see how any can be okay with putting a dog down just because of the reputation that they have from 37 years ago. Times have changed, dogs have changed. Give these loving animals a chance and see that they're not all bad.
These three breeds are just like any other, they deserve to be loved, fed, and taken care of.
Always, always, always remember- The Reputation Has NOTHING To Do With The Breed.
