A Review of Zayn Malik's Solo Debut 'PILLOWTALK'

Tears were shed around the world by young girls (and 20-year-old me) when 1/5 of the uber famous and highly exposed boy band, One Direction, announced they were leaving the band in early 2015. As the other four boys seemed to do just fine without Zayn, releasing another best-selling album, titled "Made In The AM" just months later, everyone was awaiting Zayn Malik’s solo career.

When Malik announced that his solo album, "Mind of Mine," would be released March 25, 2016, exactly one year after his break with One Direction, some of us felt utterly betrayed and sad for the other four boys. But now Zayn’s first single has been released and we can not stop talking about it. From his candid interviews about leaving the band to putting his famous model girlfriend Gigi Hadid in his music video, we can’t keep our eyes off Zayn, as much as some of us may want to. And, as the rest of the One Direction boys have decided to take a break from making music as a band (tears), this may be the closest we get to One Direction’s music for a quite a while.

His single “Pillowtalk” was the most talked about track on Twitter for several hours after its release on January 24. So by now you’ve probably listened to it or have seen the music video that received mix reviews. And if you did, and if you’re like me, I’m sure you have some questions.

Gigi? Seems like a serious step in your relationship, guys.

Cloud mamba? Or climb on board? What is he saying?

Why does his beard not match his hair?

How does one make their ponytail look that good?

What would I look like with gold studs on my face?

Do I have a headache yet from these special effects?

Will I ever be able to look at flowers the same way?

Is she crying paint? Is that natural?

Why are you crying Gigi? You have 1/5 of One Direction…and Joe Jonas...and Cody Simpson.

Am I intruding on a private moment in their relationship by watching this? This feels intimate.

Can we go back to those girls boxing wearing bunny ears?

Why are his lips moving slower than the music?

Did I hate that or love that?

Can I go more than one day without seeing Gigi Hadid?

Gigi- do you not remember being in ex-boyfriend Cody Simpson’s music video? Just look how that turned out.

Do you think Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis have seen this?

Is it weird I want to watch it again?

Now no. 1 in 30 countries, “Pillowtalk” is capturing the ears of angry Directioners and new fans with its “slow-burning intensity and a roaring chorus.” Caught in a highly sexual kaleidoscope dream, Zayn’s music video is defiantly one to watch, despite the many unanswered questions we still have about it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
