How To Be A Picky Eater And Get Away With It

Being a "picky" eater has an awful stigma. It can make people seem immature, restricted, and hard to go out with. In reality, this doesn't have to be the case.

How To Be A Picky Eater And Get Away With It

Throughout my entire life, I was always known as a boring and limited eater. I constantly went out to nice restaurants with my family and friends, feeling limited by the choices that they offered. This is a guide for people who feel similarly.

The first pro-tip is finding staple items that are healthy and delicious to you. Having these available for easy dinners and lunches are good for making sure you aren't stuck without food you actually like.

Learn to cook! Although you can't eat many things, it will be easier to incorporate the things you do like if you can put them together yourself. Not only is this fun and self-accomplishing, but it opens up your taste buds.

Pay attention to the difference between texture and taste. For example, if you have avocado because of the texture, you can put it on toast to ease the mush. On the other hand, if you just hate the taste of avocado, you could try guacamole with other vegetables in it, or move on to other vegetables.

The next tip is to simplify the things on the menu. If you look at the description of each dish carefully, taking out a few of the details can help simplify the meal. If the chef usually puts a ton of vegetables on top, ask for them on the side or not at all.

Taking away some of the ingredients is probably the biggest way to make any meal appealing to people. If there is really nothing on the menu that can be modified to your liking, then you can ask the waiter to change something further.

Another way to avoid the awkward encounters is to look at the menu before you get to the restaurant. This can make the expectations for the meal much easier. If you just simply Google the place you're going to, odds are very high that the entire menu will come up.

If you think about what you're going to order before even going to the restaurant, you can avoid the annoying feeling of noticing you don't really like anything on the menu.

The most important way to be a picky eater is to explore! As you get older, your taste buds will evolve, so you have to give yourself a chance to adjust to new foods by not being scared of anything and allowing yourself to evolve.

The point of eating should not be being able to order what everyone else is but to make sure it is perfect for you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
