Physical Deformities: We Are All Humans
discipline.longnow

Some people are born different. Not just personality wise or mentality wise. I am talking about physically different than most of us. I was watching Forest Gump yesterday and it made me realize that people are really harsh on others who are physically different, have something wrong with their bones or really anything different about them. Maybe they are born with facial disabilities where they can't move their lips so they revert to sign language to communicate, or maybe they are born with an extra finger or toes.

If someone is born with a physical disability, they shouldn't be treated any different than you and I. They get treated like garbage and I don't understand why. Just because they look different doesn't mean they are bad people. They were born the way that God wanted them to be. I hate when people make fun of others who are physically different.

For example, I walk down the path from my hall to go to Blackington and I always see a guy who use to wear crutches because he couldn't walk properly. It made me smile because he actually tried really hard to achieve the ability to walk without them. Now, he is walking up and down those paths without those crutches to help him, and it just makes me really happy to see how much he has achieved. I get so angry, and so hurt when I see or even hear about someone making fun of another person for their deformities. How can people be so rude? They are just people like you and I. They can't help that they were born that way.

I wish I was able to stop it from happening. I really do. But I am only one person. My opinions do not matter to people, only myself. I am not powerful enough to enforce a law and make it end. People will do whatever they want, with no regrets or empathy. Even if I did try to stop it, they would brush off the comment with an obscene gesture or a snide comment and continue on with what they are doing. It makes me sick even thinking about people bullying someone else because of something they couldn't control. People surprise me with how abusive and chaotic they truly are. I never would have thought that humans could be so aggressive and hurtful towards others, and it baffles me at how easily it is for some to lash out on others.

Next time you see someone bullying another for their physical differences, stop the harasser. Stand up for that poor person. It wasn't their fault that they were born the way they were. We are all human beings. We all deserve respect, equally and we all deserve the feeling of love; in one form, or another.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
