I have two younger siblings, one that is eight years younger than me and one that is 12 years younger. So, I can say from first hand experience that having a sibling that is so much younger than you is a blessing.
By the time I was 10 I was an expert diaper changer and bottle feeder, both things most new parents do not even know how to do. Having a brother who was six-years-old when I was in high school showed me I did not want to be a teen mom and that having a child is a full time job.
It also teaches you how to be a good role model. I never wanted to disappoint either of my younger siblings, and I really believe that kept me out of a lot of trouble. Being a role model, even if it is only for one person, is an important life lesson that many people do not get to experience.
Many of my fondest memories of middle and high school involve my baby siblings. I really do not know what it would be like not having a little tot around the house when I was growing up, and I really would not want that now looking back on it.
My younger siblings have taught me patience, what it means to care and love for another person and that nothing is more important than family. So, appreciate your baby brother or sister, because soon they'll be grown up and won't want to give you endless hugs and kisses. Not to mention, it is really fun to embaress them.
