7 Perks Of Moving Off-Campus And Out Of A Residence Hall

Recently, the opportunity for me to move out of my Residence Hall into a house came into fruition, so I decided to take full advantage. After 3 semesters living in a dorm, I'm so excited to say goodbye and I am ready for a change. Here are just a few things I'm excited for now that I will be living off-campus in a house.

1. My own room!

I never realized how much I missed having my own room until I got to college. Now don't get me wrong, my roommate was great, but I value my alone time a great deal and due to being introverted, I struggle to be around people 24/7. Having my own room will allow me to have that much-needed alone time, while also still being social with friends and my roommates.

2. A kitchen!

I am not the best chef, but I do enjoy cooking for myself and going grocery shopping. I like having control over what I eat, and when I have to rely on the dining hall, that gets hard. Now I'll be able to cook and stay healthy, while also enjoying going out sometimes.

3. Not paying for laundry!

I despised doing laundry in my dorm. I would have to go down multiple flights of stairs and wait for the machines to be available, and worst of all, I would have to PAY money to do laundry. Seriously? It's not like I want to do this, I have to have clean clothes & sheets! My house will have laundry machines just feet from my room, and I won't even have to pay!

4. No RA!

Both of my RAs were super nice and helpful over my 3 semesters in dorms, but I hated having mandatory hall meetings and someone to report to.

5. No more resident parking!

I was able to have my car on campus this past semester, but what was horrible was the fact that my car was parked about 10-15 minutes away from where the rest of the residents parked their cars. Now, my car will be parked right outside my house for easy access anytime I need to go somewhere.

6. Not having to register to stay!

Because I am on the dance team at my school, sometimes I have to stay over short breaks or come back early, which meant I would have to register to stay just in case. I also could not get into my dorm over winter break, so if I needed to come back then I would have to get a hotel. Now I can get into my house whenever I need to as long as I have my keys!

In all honesty, dorm life was not horrible, but it definitely was not the best. I am so excited to move into a house and not have to deal with these things anymore. Dorm life, you won't be missed!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
