Personal preference is really the defining characteristic when it comes to perfume. Some have a different scent for every occasion, and others have been wearing the same fragrance for 10 years.

But if you're in the market for something new for this season, here are a few notes to look out.

1. Aquatic.

These easy-breezy scents are great for pretty much everyone. They're light and airy, and most of the time pretty easy to wear. They make great everyday scents, especially during the warmer months.

If you're looking for that quintessential aquatic fragrance this summer, keep an eye out for lighter notes like mint and lemon, as well as salt for that beachy feel.

2. Light Floral.

Everyone and their mother knows that spring and florals go hand in hand. But when the weather starts to get pretty hot, it's important not to go too heavy on the perfume. Choosing a lighter floral during those hot spring and summer days can be the way to go.

It's for this reason that perfumes like Daisy and it's other flankers are so popular. They're light, wearable and yet intoxicating.

3. Citrus.

Another fan-favorite for the spring and summer goes for a more 'clean and fresh' approach. Notes like bergamot, lime, orange blossom and mandarin are go-to's in this family. They do an excellent job of making you feel and smell fresh and awake, even in the most hot and humid climates.

4. Oriental.

For those who aren't as into younger scents and are looking for something with a little bit more oomph, there's something for you, too. Most perfumistas consider the oriental family to make up the spicier side of perfume. Some oriental perfumes are too much for the summer. But lighter, warmer versions with a few floral notes similar to those in Mon Geurlain can be a perfect fit for those who want something more alluring.

5. Gourmand.

These notes hold a special place in my heart, all year round. With notes like vanilla and coconut, these fragrances are sweet and sultry. Like the orientals, sometimes these can be a bit much, but there is the occasional summer blend that captures the essence of suntan lotion and summer nights.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
