So, I was sitting in my psychology class a few days ago and we were talking about psychological disorders, and my professor was explaining what they all meant to class, and how to see if you needed to go to the doctor to see if you had these disorders. He explained how if you do something a couple of times over it was normal, but if you had to do it more than that and if it stopped you from having a normal day, that then you might want to go to a doctor to see what was going on, and to me, that would be common knowledge.
So, my teacher was just explaining this simple thing and not trying to offend anyone, and this kid raises his hand and says, "You act like nobody in this classroom has suffered from some of these disorders." Me being the person that I am, once I feel strongly about something I have to say something to someone, and this kid was acting like the teacher was saying that no one in that classroom actually had one of the disorders almost like the kid was offended.
This kid made me question what was happening in this situation. I understand what the kid was saying, but I also agreed with my professor. All my professor was saying was that too many people nowadays claim to have a disorder or something wrong with them to get attention or to get what they want. Do not get me wrong, I know that people actually become diagnosed with these disorders, I know people that have and it breaks my heart. I get upset when people like to say that they a depression disorder or they have OCD when they have those behaviors, but they do not actually have those disorders where it makes it hard to continue to have a normal functioning day. Our professor just wanted us to know the difference and was saying that most people just have the behaviors of those disorders instead of the actual disorder.
That kid should have listened better, instead of getting upset so quickly. The professor was not saying that everyone who says that they have that disorder just have behaviors of it, some people actually have those disorders, and they are not things to joke around with, they are real things and they can make small mundane tasks the hardest tasks in the day and the biggest obstacle to get over.
Yes, I can say that I have had behaviors of some of these disorders, but I also think that most people do. I would never claim to actually have these disorders, because I would not wish these types of problems on anyone at anytime. They make everything harder to deal with. These are real problems no matter what other people think.
